abstract

  • We revisit the concept of fairness in the Student Placement framework. We declare an allocation as alfa" role="presentation" style="box-sizing: border-box; display: inline-table; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; font-size: 17px; text-indent: 0px; text-align: left; text-transform: none; letter-spacing: normal; word-spacing: normal; word-wrap: normal; white-space: nowrap; float: none; direction: ltr; max-width: none; max-height: none; min-width: 0px; min-height: 0px; border: 0px; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; position: relative;">alfaalfa-equitable if no agent can propose an alternative allocation that nobody else might argue to be inequitable. It turns out that alfa" role="presentation" style="box-sizing: border-box; display: inline-table; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; font-size: 17px; text-indent: 0px; text-align: left; text-transform: none; letter-spacing: normal; word-spacing: normal; word-wrap: normal; white-space: nowrap; float: none; direction: ltr; max-width: none; max-height: none; min-width: 0px; min-height: 0px; border: 0px; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; position: relative;">alfaalfa-equity is compatible with efficiency. Our analysis fills a gap in the literature by giving normative support to the allocations improving, in terms of efficiency, the Student Optimal Stable allocation.
