NETWORKS OF SCIENTIFIC AND INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION IN THE GLOBAL WINE INDUSTRY: The Great Wine Capitals during the first decade of XXI century

This paper examines the relationship between scientific output and industrial production in the global wine industry. The following objectives are proposed: (i) Check the global evolution of the wine areas and trends in wine production in the first decade of the century; (ii) Scan the world stage, research institutions on the wine; (iii) To investigate the production and scientific collaboration networks between 2001 and 2010; (iv) Compare the wine productivity with the scientific literature on the subject. The resources used for this research were statistical reports of the International Organization of Vine and Wine; and Web of Science's bibliographic sources. To do this, first it was studied the global trend of this agro-industry and the creation of Great Wine Capitals network and, subsequently it was analyzed publications on viticulture in these regions in Web of Science.
