The following objectives are proposed: (i) Check the global evolution of the wine areas and trends in wine production in the first decade of the century; (ii) Scan the world stage, research institutions on the wine; (iii) To investigate the production and scientific collaboration networks between 2001 and 2010; (iv) Compare the wine productivity with the scientific literature on the subject. The resources used for this research were statistical reports of the International Organization of Vine and Wine; and Web of Science's bibliographic sources. To do this, first it was studied the global trend of this agro-industry and the creation of Great Wine Capitals network and, subsequently it was analyzed publications on viticulture in these regions in Web of Science.
