  • The warping of brake discs and ovality of brake drums is one of the main causes of vibration and noise during the braking of a vehicle and of diminishing brake efficiency. Nowadays, the International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee (CITA) demands an inspection of the warping and ovality during the Periodic Motor Vehicle Inspection (PMVI). However, the measurement is not always carried out in the same way. In this investigation, the warping-ovality has been deeply studied and characterized. Its measurement has been carried out not only from the direct dimensional measurement but also by means of a brake roller tester which is used during PMVI. In this paper a quick, precise and objective methodology to measure the warping-ovality, and which can be applied to the brake roller testers used in PMVI, has been proposed.
