abstract

  • In the last five years, the Spanish audio-visual industry has been shaped by the expansion of transnational on-demand audio-visual services as well as by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, characterized by opportunities and challenges, such as an increase in production agreements, popular hits and critical acclaim, alongside industry concentration and inadequate financial support, the international market offers hope while promising strategic opportunity. This article portrays the strengths and weaknesses of Spanish cinematography and television on the global stage between 2016 and 2021. Although the industry has witnessed a discernible increase in international recognition, this does not make up for its limited circulation and modest export numbers.
