abstract

  • It seems obvious that physicists and engineers will need to work together to make quantum devices a practicality. The fact that atomic species useful in quantum devices have electronic energy transitions in the microwave frequency range results in an increased need for microwave engineering in well-established quantum applications such as microwave atomic clocks and magnetometers. Less mature applications such as quantum computing, high-sensitivity radio-frequency (RF) field sensing using Rydberg atoms, quantum communications, and radar also present interesting and new design and metrology challenges for microwave engineers.
