  • Este trabajo persigue el doble objetivo de asentar la identidad del I marqués de Mirabel y precisar las circunstancias de concesión y uso del título en la persona de don Fadrique de Zúñiga y Sotomayor (1489-1572). El estudio se estructura en dos apartados. En el primero se parte de los discursos sobre la creación del título que elaboraron los principales genealogistas del Barroco para a continuación contextualizar la concesión en la política de ennoblecimiento de la monarquía. En el segundo se analiza por qué el marquesado no fue ostentado por su titular en los años posteriores a la concesión. Una anomalía que encuentra su explicación en el marco local, en concreto en la formación del señorío de Mirabel a partir de la reversión de Plasencia al realengo (1488) en un contexto de pugnas banderizas en la ciudad entre Zúñigas y Carvajales. = The aim of this paper is to clarify the identity of the I marquis of Mirabel and detail the circumstances of its grant and use for don Fadrique de Zúñiga y Sotomayor (1489-1572). The paper is structured through two main sections. In the first one, we studythe publications of the most well-known genealogists of the Baroque Era, in order to examine their ideas about the creation of the title, and thencontextualize this grant in the Monarchy’s ennoblement policy. In the second one, we analyze the reasons whythe title was not used in the years immediately following its creation. An anomaly that finds its explanation in the local context, specifically in the circumstances of the creation and conformation of the domain of Mirabel and the struggles between the Zúñiga and Carvajal families for the control of Plasencia.
