abstract

  • We present the results of the photonic integrated circuit measurements in order to implement an optical frequency comb generator (OFCG) based on a recirculating ring using electro-optic phase modulators (EOPM). The design is established on the functional blocks of the OCLARO Tech generic integration platform. The optical comb produces multiple wavelengths, equally spaced by the input RF frequency provided by an external synthesizer from a seed wavelength. This lambda seed can be of external or internal (on-chip) character, by means of a DBR (Distributed Bragg Reflector) single mode laser in order to develop a fully integrated OFCG. This structure is compact and small (6 x 2 mm), whose elements are interconnected with InP waveguides that replaces the optical fiber, avoiding thermal variations that affect the generated signal. For our knowledge, this is the first time that measurements are made on this type of structures.
